On Tuesday, the Layton Lancers faced the Davis Darts in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Layton had just enough and edged Davis out 72-70. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Layton has posted yet this season.
Layton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was David Katoa out in front who scored 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mekhi Martin, who scored 15 points.
When it comes to explaining why Davis lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zach Fisher. Despite the final result, he scored 28 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fisher has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Coleman Atwater, who scored 19 points.
Layton pushed their record up to 14-1 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Davis, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Layton will take on Farmington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Farmington has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests. As for Davis, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Syracuse at 7:00 p.m. Syracuse is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.7 points per game.
