The Highlands Scots will head out on the road to face off against the Orestimba Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
A well-balanced attack led Highlands over Vacaville Christian in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Highlands blew Vacaville Christian out of the water with a 42-0 final score. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Highlands had established a 35 point advantage.
Highlands' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Walter Lewis, who threw for 141 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Covon Wheeler and his 102 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Highlands' win.
Highlands' defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Leading the way was Giovanni Rata and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Orestimba entered their tilt with Gustine with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Orestimba claimed a resounding 49-7 victory over Gustine at home. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-0.
It was another big night for Juan Esquivez, who rushed for 130 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Esquivez is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played.
Highlands' victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-5. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 36 points. As for Orestimba, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Highlands has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 190.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Orestimba struggles in that department as they've been even better at 196.9 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
