Lovejoy (Lucas, Texas) took the lead for good when it scored a touchdown with 6:00 left in the fourth quarter and held on to defeat
Sherman (Texas) 35-27 on Saturday.
The Bearcats pulled ahead on a
Dru Smith touchdown pass to
Joseph Harvey, and subsequently went into halftime leading 14-7. The Leopards scored the winning points with a touchdown that came in the fourth quarter.
Bowman Sells played well for Lovejoy in the victory. He threw three touchdowns.
Sherman's Smith played well. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns.
The defeat comes as a step back for Sherman, which notched a 56-28 victory over Royse City in its previous outing.
In a 4A Region II District 13 game next week Lovejoy (8-0) takes on Royse City, and Sherman (6-2) will go up against Wylie also in a 4A Region II District 13 game.
