After a string of three wins, Summit Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They had to suffer through a rough 68-33 loss at the hands of Judge Memorial Catholic. Summit Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-14.
Despite their loss, Summit Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Avery Backus, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Backus is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Regan Georgeson was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine rebounds and three blocks.
Meanwhile, Juan Diego Catholic's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their tenth straight loss. They were outmatched by Layton Christian Academy on the road and fell 58-23. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Juan Diego Catholic has suffered since December 5, 2023.
Summit Academy's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-6. As for Juan Diego Catholic, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-14.
Summit Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Juan Diego Catholic in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 56-52 victory.
