The Dixie Flyers will head out on the road to challenge the Snow Canyon Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Dixie sitting on seven straight wins and Snow Canyon on five.
On Wednesday, Dixie faced Pine View in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Dixie put the hurt on Pine View with a sharp 76-56 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Dixie's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kyle Lemke led the charge by scoring 25 points along with five assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Roberts, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 assists.
Meanwhile, Snow Canyon beat Cedar 58-49 on Wednesday. Given Snow Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Cedar is ranked 83rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Owen Mackay was his usual excellent self, scoring 20 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Snow Canyon's points. Another player making a difference was Trey Kelsch, who scored 15 points.
Dixie pushed their record up to 18-3 with that victory, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.9 points per game. As for Snow Canyon, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.
Dixie strolled past Snow Canyon in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 70-54. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Mackay, who scored 27 points along with three steals. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Dixie still be able to contain Mackay? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
