Baseball Recap: Cottonwood Has No Trouble Against Hillcrest

Cottonwood never let their opponents score on Friday. They put the hurt on the Hillcrest Huskies with a sharp 15-0 win. The Colts might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Quinn Mendenhall looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.

At the plate, Diego Martinez and Isaiah Cosby did most of the damage at the plate: Martinez went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Cosby got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Martinez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Noble Weaver, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Cottonwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hillcrest only posted an OBP of .300.

Cottonwood is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Hillcrest, they are on a 17-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-21.

Looking ahead, Cottonwood will head out to take on Bear River at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Hillcrest, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Roy at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
