Basketball Recap: Rianne Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lehigh over Estero

Lehigh was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 53-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Estero Wildcats. The Lightning were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.

Lehigh lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Rianne Smith, who posted 19 points and three steals. The match was Smith's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Terryah Lawson, who had seven points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Amiya Lewis had an outrageously good game for Estero as she went 11 of 21 on her way to 26 points and eight rebounds. Lewis has been hot for a while, having posted 17 or more points the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Rayne Woods, who put up 11 points.

Lehigh's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Estero, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Lehigh didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-41 victory against Ida Baker on the 5th. As for Estero, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 64-40 defeat against Canterbury on the 5th.
