The Morning Star Academy Mustangs were the 55-43 winner over the Tri-State Christian Huskies when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Morning Star Academy fell to Tri-State Christian 48-44. Morning Star Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Morning Star Academy still got an impressive performance from Gavin Trotter, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Trotter is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kellen Axtman, who scored 12 points.
Tri-State Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nick Vannorsdel out in front who scored 23 points along with six rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Vannorsdel has scored all season. Will Cunningham was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Morning Star Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. As for Tri-State Christian, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
Morning Star Academy will head out on the road to challenge Unity Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Unity Christian is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Tri-State Christian, they will play host again and welcome Quad Cities Christian, where tip off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Quad Cities Christian is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53.4 points per game.
