Meanwhile, on Wednesday Philip Barbour's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against South Harrison. The three-run effort marked the Colts' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Like Elkins, Philip Barbour also got a great game from a two-way player: Landyn Carpenter. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Carpenter has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Kent Rowan was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kale Wolfe, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Elkins' defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Philip Barbour, their win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0.
Elkins suffered a grim 11-4 defeat to Philip Barbour in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
