It was a good run, but the Monroe Golden Tornadoes unfortunately witnessed the end of their 12-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 57-48 to Westover. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Monroe has scored all season.
Monroe's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Justin Burns, who scored 15 points along with three blocks, and Lorenzo Still who scored 13 points along with two steals. Burns hasn't dropped below 15points for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of James Adams, who scored seven points.
Monroe struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Westover racked up 12 assists.
Bryson Carter was the offensive standout of the matchup as he scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Anthony Milton was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Monroe's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-3. As for Westover, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monroe and Carver will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Carver's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 15 games. As for Westover, they will head out on the road to challenge Shaw at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Shaw will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 243rd, while Westover is ranked 116th).
