The Nebraska City Pioneers will challenge the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Nebraska City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Nebraska City is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Malcolm just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Clippers by a score of 10-9.
Rylie Beethe was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. Hanna Marth was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Ashland-Greenwood, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Bishop Neumann 7-5.
Sofia Dill was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ellie Milburn, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in October of 2024. Megan Gerdes also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Ashland-Greenwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Neumann only managed five.
Ashland-Greenwood is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Nebraska City, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7.
Nebraska City's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Pioneers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Ashland-Greenwood, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Nebraska City continue to outrun the ball?
Nebraska City took their victory against Ashland-Greenwood in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 19-9 score. Will the Pioneers repeat their success, or do the Bluejays have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
