The Beardstown Tigers will take on the North Greene Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Beardstown's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so North Greene's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Beardstown took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Seymour, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Beardstown came out on top in a nail-biter against Seymour on Wednesday, sneaking past 7-5.
Shelby Goodrich made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Goodrich was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylynn Maltby, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cami Coats, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Beardstown lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, North Greene had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on North Mac with a sharp 12-1 win on Friday. The Spartans not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15, 2024.
Chelsey Casstleberry made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Eva Schenck was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Larissa Heberling was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Beardstown's record now sits at 3-1. As for North Greene, their record now sits at 1-0.
Beardstown took their victory against North Greene in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 17-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Beardstown since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
