The Woodland Wolverines will challenge the Beaufort Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Woodland took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 victory over Timberland. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Corinne Westbury was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Mccarthy, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Woodland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .529 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Beaufort made easy work of Bluffton on Thursday and carried off an 18-2 win. Considering the Eagles have won six games by more than 11 runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Adalyn Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Beaufort got a massive performance out of Hadley Stevens, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. That's the most runs Stevens has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Arianna Smith, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Beaufort has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Woodland, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.
