If the MaxPreps state rankings hold true, the near future looks bright for Southside. They will challenge Carolina Academy on the road at 7:30 PM on Friday. Southside don't have the home-field advantage, but they do enjoy an advantage in the MaxPreps rankings.
Southside were the first on the board but had to settle for second at the end of their contest against Chapman last Friday. Southside lost to Chapman by a decisive 24-42 margin. On a positive note, junior Braydon Bennett put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 116 yards and 1 touchdown. Bennett has now scored at least one touchdown in the past nine games.
Meanwhile, Carolina Academy have been struggling to pick up a win, with their game against Broome making it nine winless games in a row. Carolina Academy took a serious blow against Broome, falling 20-65.
With both teams hitting sour notes in their previous games, they will no doubt be looking to produce a better outcome in this one. With four turnovers, Southside had trouble holding onto the ball. We'll see if Carolina Academy exploit that vulnerability.
