Ashley has gone 8-2 against Laney recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Ashley Screaming Eagle are taking a road trip to take on the Laney Buccaneers at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Ashley is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of North Carolina's top teams: West Stokes, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Ashley was ranked first). Ashley put the hurt on West Stokes with a sharp 9-2 victory on Saturday. The Screaming Eagle's win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
The team relied heavily on Drew Potter, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Bentley, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Laney waltzed into their game on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Falcons as they made off with a 12-1 victory.
Jesse Smith looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, TJ Ziermann was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Jack Holliman also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Laney kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
Ashley's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-0. As for Laney, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Ashley's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. Ashley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Laney, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Ashley continue to outrun the ball?
Ashley took their victory against Laney when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ashley since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
