Baldwin is 7-2 against First Coast since February of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Baldwin Indians will square off against the First Coast Buccaneers at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Baldwin has three straight victories, First Coast has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Baldwin and Baker County, and Baldwin kept the tradition alive. Baldwin came out on top against Baker County by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday.
The result came thanks to Hayden Peebles's shutout, as she gave up just three hits. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Raven Watson and Kendall North did most of the damage at the plate: Watson scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while North scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits Watson has posted since back in February of 2024. Harleigh Moore also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Baldwin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Baker County only posted a batting average of .125.
Meanwhile, First Coast came up short against Nease on Tuesday and fell 10-5.
First Coast saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooke Edmonds, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Baldwin's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for First Coast, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Baldwin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like First Coast struggles in that department as they've averaged .367. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Baldwin took their victory against First Coast when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 13-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Baldwin since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
