Baseball Recap: Parker Drops Season-High Score on Westside

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Parker). They never let the Westside Wolverines get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Braves have won five matches by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Marcus Johnson was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Yaxiel Santiago was a standout: he scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Parker: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Xaydrien McGriff, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Parker hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in six consecutive games.

Parker has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. Westside's loss was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Parker will venture away from home to face off against Riverside at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Parker is facing Riverside at the right time seeing as Riverside is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Westside, they are taking a road trip to challenge Yulee at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
