Basketball Recap: Kennley Davis Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Drayton/Valley-Edinburg

St. John played in conference for the first time on Saturday and they got just the result they we're looking for. They walked away with a 60-49 victory over the Drayton/Valley-Edinburg Titans. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Woodchucks.

St. John's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kennley Davis, who posted 17 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Davis is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Kalli Keplin was another key player, going 5 for 9 on her way to 14 points in addition to seven steals and five boards.

St. John smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in 16 consecutive matchups.

Despite the loss, Drayton/Valley-Edinburg still got an impressive performance from Aleah Pokrzywinski, who went 6 of 9 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points. Those 24 points gave Pokrzywinski a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaelyn Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.

St. John's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-10. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Drayton/Valley-Edinburg, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10.

St. John wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 59-40 loss against Four Winds/Minnewaukan on the 28th. As for Drayton/Valley-Edinburg, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 77-51 defeat against Benson County [Leeds/Maddock] on the 28th.
