Cathedral got a great performance from Derek Armendariz as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave Armendariz a new career-high.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alex Medrano, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Gabriel Ramirez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Santa Teresa waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They never let the Lobos get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. Considering the Desert Warriors have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Ardon Luna, who gave up just three hits and racked up 13 Ks to keep Mountain View off the board. Luna has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Gavin Garcia was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Molina, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Cathedral's win bumped their record up to 16-7-1. As for Santa Teresa, their victory bumped their record up to 11-2.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cathedral has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. However, it's not like Santa Teresa struggles in that department as they've averaged .535. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Cathedral's way against Santa Teresa when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Cathedral made off with an 11-1 win. Will Cathedral repeat their success, or does Santa Teresa has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
