Lakewood had lost three straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 5-12 to make it four. They came up short against the Chatfield Chargers, falling 12-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-6 on Thursday.
Spencer Jensen and Harrison Meade did some serious damage despite the final result: Jensen went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Meade went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that Meade has hit this season.
As for Chatfield, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-8. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Lakewood, they, and Bear Creek.
On Chatfield's side, Brody Logan made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Logan has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Chatfield is undefeated when Logan posts one or more home runs, but 7-8 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colin Metz, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Chatfield's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Batz, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Coincidentally, Lakewood and Chatfield will both be playing Bear Creek the next time they take the field. The Chargers will head out to face the Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Tigers will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
