Gabe Smith was excellent, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Coastal HomeSchool's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 3-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was James Caines, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Coastal HomeSchool always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Beaufort Academy only posted an OBP of .314.
Meanwhile, Augusta E was able to grind out a solid victory over Providence Athletic Club on Tuesday, taking the game 8-4. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won seven in a row.
Eli Poteet was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.
Poteet wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jaiden Jacobsen, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. Sean Gerdes also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Coastal HomeSchool's record is now 8-6. As for Augusta E, their record is now 5-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Coastal HomeSchool has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Augusta E struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Coastal HomeSchool couldn't quite get it done against Augusta E in their previous matchup on March 1st as they fell 9-4. Can Coastal HomeSchool avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
