With a playoff win on the line, Venture Academy rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They skirted past the El Dorado Cougars 6-5. Winning may never get old, but the Mustangs sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Angel Voller made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Voller wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was David Mays, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases Mays has posted since back in March.
Venture Academy's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for El Dorado, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-13.
Coming up, Venture Academy will face off against Hughson at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Mustangs 2, the Huskies 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. El Dorado does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
