Basketball Recap: Madison Comes Up Short

Madison was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They were beaten by the Brandeis Broncos 74-34. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 907th, while the Broncos are ranked 334th).

Despite the loss, Madison still got an impressive performance from Mikaela Garcia, who posted eight points and 11 rebounds. That's the most rebounds Garcia has posted since back in November of 2024. Alejandra Hernandez was another key player, putting up five points.

Even though they lost, Madison smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive contests.

Brandeis' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mia Ramos, who made all 6 shots she took to post 16 points. Ramos' morning made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Daryn Thienpont, who made all 5 shots she took to post 13 points.

Madison's defeat dropped their record down to 4-21. As for Brandeis, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-16.

Madison will head out to face off against LEE at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Brandeis, they will face off against SA Roosevelt at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. SA Roosevelt has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
