After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pine Creek, the Liberty Lancers were happy to have found some success on Saturday. They came out on top against Palmer by a score of 42-35. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Liberty also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Liberty got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ava Dawes out in front who scored 13 points along with three blocks. Dawes is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Gardner, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Palmer lost, one person who can't be blamed is Leah Martinez. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 60% of Palmer's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Alexa Stevens was another key contributor, scoring three points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Palmer struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Liberty pulled down 13 offensive rebounds.
Liberty has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Palmer, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-8.
Liberty will be playing at home against Rampart at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Rampart has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Palmer, they will head out on the road to face off against Coronado at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Coronado focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Monday.
