Henderson County got a great performance from Cole Thompson as he struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Thompson also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Colonels are 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-8 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brody Belt, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Lyon County came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Cardinals as they made off with an 18-7 win. The result was nothing new for the Lyons, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Paysen Oliver looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, John Bingham was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Hudson Phillips was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Lyon County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in six consecutive matches.
The victory made it two in a row for Henderson County and bumps their season record up to 4-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Lyon County, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.
Henderson County skirted past Lyon County 7-6 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Do the Colonels have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lyons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
