Basketball Recap: Carina Castaneda Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Lakeside

Perris hadn't done well against Lakeside recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Perris Panthers skirted past the Lakeside Lancers 47-45. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 47-38 back in January.

Perris got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Carina Castaneda out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Castaneda has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 20 times she's played. E'Niece Ray was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 16 boards.

Perris smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Lakeside had strong showings from Angela Serrano, who posted 13 points along with seven rebounds and six assists, and Elise Henderson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Henderson a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Pozos Padilla, who had six points and seven steals.

Perris has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season. As for Lakeside, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-13 record.

Perris has already played their next game (against Arlington), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Lakeside will be playing in front of their home fans against Hillcrest at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Hillcrest will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Lakeside surely won't give up without a fight.
