South San Antonio is 0-6 against Carroll since April of 2015 but things could change on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Bobcats face off against the Tigers at 10:00 a.m. South San Antonio's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Carroll's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
South San Antonio saw some tournament action on Thursday. They walked away with a 9-5 victory over Harlingen South.
Matthew Reyna made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Reyna was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julian Hernandez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Anthony Chavez also deserves some recognition as he stole his first stolen base of the season.
South San Antonio always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Harlingen South only posted an OBP of .385.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Carroll's offense. They lost 7-0 to Harlingen South on Thursday. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Carroll also got a good showing from Cornell Cabrera, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Carroll now has a losing record of 1-2. As for South San Antonio, their record now sits at 7-2.
Carroll's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South San Antonio hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. It's a different story for Carroll, though, as they've only averaged .130. Will they be able to contain South San Antonio's hitters?
South San Antonio suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Carroll when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can South San Antonio avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
