Providence Athletic Club has gone a perfect 3-0 against Wagener-Salley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Panthers will head out to challenge the War Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Providence Athletic Club is coming into the game hot, having won their last ten games.
On Friday, Providence Athletic Club earned a 7-4 victory over Heathwood Hall Episcopal.
Atalie Gauntt made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, three RBI, and one stolen base while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kenslee Wessinger was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylin Otey, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Wagener-Salley never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Hunter-Kinard-Tyler last Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 13-0 win. The result was nothing new for the War Eagles, who have now won four matches by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Like Providence Athletic Club, Wagener-Salley also got a great game from a two-way player: Kylee Hooker. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Hooker was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Wagener-Salley got a massive performance out of Jordan Burkett, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Jordi Wood also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Wagener-Salley has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Providence Athletic Club, their win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-1.
Everything went Providence Athletic Club's way against Wagener-Salley in their previous matchup back in March, as Providence Athletic Club made off with an 11-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
