The Lamar Thunder will be playing at home against the La Junta Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
After a string of four wins, Lamar's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They lost to The Vanguard School on the road by a decisive 68-50 margin. Lamar has not had much luck with The Vanguard School recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Xzavier DeLarosa, who scored ten points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Alex Williams was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with four steals.
La Junta suffered their biggest defeat since December 7, 2023 on Tuesday. They suffered a tough 60-34 loss at the hands of Banning Lewis Academy. While losing is never fun, La Junta can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 266th, while Banning Lewis Academy is ranked 39th).
Lamar's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for La Junta, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.
Lamar came up short against La Junta when the teams last played back in January of 2023, falling 53-47. Thankfully for Lamar, Jay Grimsley (who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 16 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
