The Watauga Pioneers will head out to square off against the Alexander Central Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Watauga is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.6 points per game this season.
Last Thursday, Watauga didn't have too much trouble with South Caldwell as they won 74-55. The Pioneers pushed the score to 65-36 by the end of the third, a deficit the Spartans cut but never quite recovered from.

Kate Sears was her usual excellent self, shooting 7-for-11 from deep and almost dropping a triple-double on 39 points, 14 boards, and nine assists. She is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last 18 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Julie Matheson, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 17 points.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Alexander Central). They enjoyed a cozy 67-49 win over Ashe County on Thursday.
Watauga better keep an eye on Meredith Wike. She was instrumental in Alexander Central's win, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie Jack, who posted 12 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.
They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Alexander Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in November of 2023.
Watauga pushed their record up to 7-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Alexander Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Watauga has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 27.3 boards per game. However, it's not like Alexander Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Watauga skirted past Alexander Central 45-42 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Watauga since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
