Desert Pines and Cheyenne are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Desert Pines Jaguars will be playing at home against the Cheyenne Desert Shields at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Monday, Desert Pines took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 58-8 win over Eldorado. With Desert Pines ahead 40-7 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Desert Pines can attribute much of their success to Alanna Jackson, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Taveah Oliver, who scored 9 points along with 3 steals.
Meanwhile, Cheyenne gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Chaparral 65-3 at home.
Among those leading the charge was Elissa Sambo, who scored 14 points along with 5 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Nita Franklin, who scored 13 points along with 3 steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Desert Pines and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Cheyenne, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Everything came up roses for Desert Pines against Cheyenne in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 68-28 victory. Will Desert Pines repeat their success, or does Cheyenne have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
