The Mercyhurst Prep Lakers fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Seneca Bobcats on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 58-54 defeat to they. They were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Seneca apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Mercyhurst Prep still got an impressive performance from Craig Buckner, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Jeremy Ganska was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Mercyhurst Prep were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Mercyhurst Prep now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Seneca, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-8.
Mercyhurst Prep will face off against Girard at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Girard will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Seneca will take on Iroquois at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Iroquois focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
