If the South Point Red Raiders were feeling good off their 67-47 takedown of the Stuart W. Cramer Storm last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. South Point fell just short of Huss by a score of 62-59. The game was a 32-32 toss-up at halftime, but South Point couldn't quite close it out.
Several Red Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Christian Petty, who scored 12 points. Graham Williams was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Huss to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zaiyir 'Zii' Phillips, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds. Phillips continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Damontia Duff, who scored six points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
South Point's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-9. As for Huss, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 8-11 record this season.
South Point will head out on the road to take on Crest at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Crest knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 16 matchups -- so hopefully South Point likes a good challenge. As for Huss, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against West Mecklenburg at 6:30 p.m. on February 7th. West Mecklenburg is coming into the match with four straight losses on the road, meaning Huss will have to defend against a team hungry for a win.
