After a string of three wins, the Coffee Trojans's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of Statesboro by a score of 49-47. While losing is never fun, Coffee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 237th, while Statesboro is ranked 56th).
Despite the loss, Coffee still got an impressive performance from Marquavious Bussey, who scored 20 points along with two steals. That was a full 42.6% of Coffee's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Junitho Benson, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Statesboro's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Camdyn Wilkerson led the charge by scoring eight points along with 12 rebounds. Kamron (kam) Mikell was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Coffee's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Statesboro, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.
Coffee will be playing in front of their home fans against Ware County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Statesboro, they will head out on the road to square off against Swainsboro at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
