Football Recap: Elida's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Elida extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping them up to 3-0. They came within four points of losing the streak, but they secured an 87-83 W against the New Mexico School for the Deaf Roadrunners. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Tigers also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2024.

Cason Norman was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 317 yards and ten TDs while picking up 8.3 yards per carry, and also picked up 30 receiving yards. His rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his seventh straight game with at least 220 rushing yards dating back to last season. Chase Aguiri was in the mix as well, providing Elida with two scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Elida was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 432 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.

As for New Mexico School for the Deaf, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (60), they still had to take the loss.

New Mexico School for the Deaf lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Santiago Lopez, who picked up 228 receiving yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 78 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight carries. His longest reception was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per catch total. Tyler Todorovic was another key player, throwing for 337 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 12.0 yards per attempt.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Elida will challenge rival Floyd at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, New Mexico School for the Deaf is set to square off against their familiar foe Roy/Mosquero at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
