The Buena Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 51-42 to Summit. The game was a 19-19 toss-up at halftime, but Buena was outscored by Summit in the second.
When it comes to explaining why Buena lost, one person who can't be blamed is Luke Ortiz. Despite the final result, he dropped a triple-double on 11 points, 25 rebounds, and 11 blocks. Those 11 blocks set a new season-high mark for him. Josh ullegue was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Buena were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Buena's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Summit, their victory bumped their record up to 5-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Buena will take on Santa Barbara at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Santa Barbara is ranked 502nd, while Buena is ranked 480th). Summit and Yucaipa will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Yucaipa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Wednesday.
