Independence had a rough outing against North Pontotoc last week, but a little bit of home cooking seems to have fixed things right up. Independence took the match and then some with a 61-15 win on Friday over Strayhorn. That result was just more of the same for Independence, who also won the last time these teams played.
Independence started the matchup off right with 55 first-half points. Strayhorn put up 9, so the score was 55-9 at the half. The Independence defense stood its ground in the third quarter, giving up 0 and all but finishing the game. The win got Independence back to even at 3-3. Strayhorn are still searching for that first win as they fell to 0-7.
Next week Independence take on North Panola at 7:00 PM. Both teams are strolling into their contest after big wins in their previous games. Strayhorn will look to defend their home turf against Baldwyn at 7:00 PM. Both teams have had a rocky road up to this point with seven consecutive losses for Strayhorn and five for Baldwyn.
