The El Camino Wildcats will be taking part in a tournament against the Carlsbad Lancers at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
El Camino had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Mission Vista on Tuesday. El Camino put the hurt on Mission Vista with a sharp 17-1 victory. The Wildcats not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 27, 2024.
Kaden Zimmerman looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, El Camino got a massive performance out of Ethan Stelzer, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance gave Stelzer a new career-high in triples. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Saldivar, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4.
El Camino always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mission Vista only posted an OBP of .125.
Meanwhile, Carlsbad didn't have quite enough to beat Sage Creek on Tuesday and fell 12-11. That's two games in a row now that the Lancers have lost by just one run.
Ayden Mu?oz and Liam Stigers did some serious damage despite the final result: Mu?oz scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3, while Stigers went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those stolen bases were Mu?oz's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rob Bering, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
This is the second loss in a row for Carlsbad and nudges their season record down to 2-2. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for El Camino, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
El Camino came out on top in a nail-biter against Carlsbad when the teams last played back in March of 2018, sneaking past 3-2. Does El Camino have another victory up their sleeve, or will Carlsbad turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
