The Valmeyer Pirates were the 48-38 winner over the Steeleville Warriors when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Valmeyer fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 40-37.
Valmeyer's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ava Reeves, who scored ten points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Reeves has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Miller, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and five blocks.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Steeleville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rylan Reiss, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Reiss hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Bailey Cole, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Valmeyer has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for Steeleville, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-13.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valmeyer will take on the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Steeleville, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the at 6:00 p.m. on February 5th.
