Basketball Recap: Lakewood Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

Lakewood picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They walked away with a 59-47 victory over the Fox Creek Predators.

Lakewood had a senior duo take command as Pop Cato went 8 of 14 en route to 21 points and Darius Franklin dropped a double-double on 15 points and 21 rebounds. Franklin has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last nine times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Andre Mcbride, who posted three points along with six steals and five boards.

Lakewood was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Fox Creek saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kobe Sims went 9 of 14 on his way to 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Vining, who had 11 points.

Lakewood is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points per game. As for Fox Creek, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-6.

Lakewood will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on South Florence at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th. South Florence will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Lakewood surely won't give up without a fight. As for Fox Creek, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 74-71 defeat against Harlem on the 4th.
