It was a good run, but the Lamar Thunder unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 68-50 bruising from The Vanguard School. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lamar in their matchups with The Vanguard School: they've now lost eight in a row.
Lamar lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Xzavier DeLarosa, who scored ten points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points DeLarosa has scored all season. Alex Williams was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with four steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead The Vanguard School to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cameron Rowney, who scored 18 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Rowney has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of JJ Wetters, who scored 14 points along with seven assists and five steals.
Lamar's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for The Vanguard School, their victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0.
Lamar will take on La Junta at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. La Junta will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 266th, while Lamar is ranked 73rd). As for The Vanguard School, they will head out on the road to face off against Woodland Park at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
