This season hasn't been kind to the Lowcountry Leadership NaviGators, who are still winless after their 18th game. They took a serious blow against Cross on Wednesday, falling 97-44. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lowcountry Leadership in their matchups with Cross: they've now lost six in a row.
Lowcountry Leadership's loss came despite strong showings from Josh Thompson and Tabaree Rouse-Bailey. Thompson scored 12 points, while Rouse-Bailey scored nine points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Rouse-Bailey hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games.
Lowcountry Leadership struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Cross pulled down 17 offensive rebounds.
Cross' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamez Way, who scored 20 points along with eight assists and eight steals. Way is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominick Lampkin, who scored 22 points along with three steals.
Lowcountry Leadership's defeat was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-18. As for Cross, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-4.
Lowcountry Leadership will take on Burke at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Burke presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lowcountry Leadership in South Carolina (Burke is ranked 125th, while Lowcountry Leadership is ranked 298th). As for Cross, they will head out on the road to take on Baptist Hill at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Baptist Hill is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60 points per game.
