Odessa is 7-1 against Warrensburg since September of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Odessa put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They really took it to Center for the full four quarters, racking up a 60-12 win. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri football rankings (they are ranked 84th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 212th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Odessa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cole Westerhold led the charge by rushing for 157 yards and one score on only 13 carries. Jake Palmer was another key rusher, rushing for 114 yards and one TD on only 11 carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Odessa was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 321 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Odessa's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: De'Andre Bandy, Zeke Bergen, and William Scott, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Meanwhile, Warrensburg humbled Pleasant Hill with a 38-7 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Tigers have posted against the Roosters/Chicks since October 9, 2020.
The win made it two in a row for Odessa and bumps their season record up to 4-1. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 19 points in those games. As for Warrensburg, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Odessa couldn't quite get it done against Warrensburg when the teams last played back in October of 2024 as they fell 50-42. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
