Two dominant signal callers in Malachi Wilt and Brady Scott are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Verrado Vipers will be playing at home against the Canyon View Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Verrado is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 31.1 points per game this season.
Verrado had been on a five-game streak of scoring at least 31 points, but Desert Edge put an end to it on Friday. The Vipers were beaten by the Scorpions 44-7. The game marked the Vipers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Despite the defeat, Verrado got top-tier performance from Immanuel Perry, who rushed for 93 yards and one TD on only ten carries.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Canyon View). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Kellis 49-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Jaguars' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona football rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Cougars are ranked 121st).
Verrado better keep an eye on Dj Sims Jr.. He was instrumental in Canyon View's win, rushing for 11 yards and a pair of scores, while also picking up 62 receiving yards. Sims Jr. got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 50 yards. Micahel Callejas did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 80 receiving yards.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Canyon View proved: they limited Kellis to a paltry 2.1 yards per carry. While two picked up at least eight total tackles, Jackson McCarthy stood above the rest. He picked up a sack and made eight total tackles (3.0 for loss). Canyon View's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.2.
Canyon View is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.0 points on average over those games. As for Verrado, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
Everything came up roses for Verrado against Canyon View in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 42-7 win. In that contest, the Vipers amassed a halftime lead of 28-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
