Softball Recap: Garfield Now 10-3 over Last 13 Games

Garfield won the last time they faced Bell and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 16-4 victory. Considering the Bulldogs have won eight matchups by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Nadia Carrillo and Clara Villalpando made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Carrillo struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Villalpando tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Carrillo has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At the plate, Carrillo went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Villalpando went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, three doubles, and four RBI. Those five hits gave Villalpando a new career-high.

In other batting news, Starlyne Vargas was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Valerie Valencia, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Garfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Garfield has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Bell, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.

Garfield will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Eagles: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
