The Comenius Knights pushed their score all the way to 73 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Bessemer City 77-73. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Comenius came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 206th in South Carolina, while Bessemer City is ranked 586th in North Carolina).
Cordarius Glenn was his usual excellent self, scoring 29 points along with five steals for Bessemer City. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Gordon, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Comenius are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-12. As for Bessemer City, their win bumped their record up to 3-9.
Comenius will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Apprentice Academy at 6:00 p.m. Bessemer City and Thomas Jefferson will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Thomas Jefferson's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matchups.
