Football Recap: Strathmore Piles Up the Points Against Avenal

Strathmore's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Avenal Buccaneers 53-7. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 39-0.

Isaiah Colunga was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 79 yards and one TD on only eight carries, and also threw for 88 yards and three touchdowns. Those three passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Noah Pavone, who rushed for 122 yards and one score on only six carries.

The win got Strathmore back to even at 1-1. As for Avenal, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Strathmore will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Exeter at 7:30 p.m. on the 12th. As for Avenal, they will challenge Riverdale at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
