The biggest upset of the week belonged to Waynesfield-Goshen, who took down 412th ranked Waynesfield-Goshen, 42-14. Hunter Burnett threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns and ran for two yards in the win.
Brent Nicol of Fairbanks ran for the longest rushing play in Northwest Central this season against the Tigers last week. Nicol's team bested Waynesfield-Goshen as he sprinted for 93 yards on the play and finished with 131 in all.
Justice McGue provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Ridgemont lost to Fairfield Christian Academy. He completed four passes for 161 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 92 yards. McGue's favorite target this week was Chris Weyent, who caught two passes for 85 yards.
O'Leary Eli was the best wideout in the league this week as Gary Spencer's team fell to Fairbanks. Eli tallied 11 receptions for 128 yards. Lee Turner helped Waynesfield-Goshen's passing attack out by catching five balls for 58 yards.
Dave Gebhart's team's Burnett and Phillip Gibson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Burnett has thrown for 1736 yards this season, while Gibson, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 46 catches for 858 yards. Delaunte Thornton from Fort Loramie leads the league in rushing with 976 yards.
The top two teams in Northwest Central will face off this week when first place Fort Loramie takes on second place Ridgemont. Last week, the Redskins beat Riverside, while the Golden Gophers lost to the Knights.
Thornton of the Fort Loramie is only 24 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
The Panthers moved up to 457 from 561 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Fairbanks was able to make the jump by besting the Tigers 42-14.
