After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Hanover, Varina was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They skirted past the Highland Springs Springers 11-10. The high-scoring effort was just what the Blue Devils needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Rylee Geer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off eight hits. Geer was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julia Anderson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Mariah Stone, who earned one RBI and two runs.
Varina has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Highland Springs, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 11-7 record.
As of now, neither Varina nor the Springers have any future games scheduled.
