Make it ten blowout wins for the Harlan Hawks this season. They put the hurt on Holmes with a sharp 69-49 win on Friday. Given Harlan's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while the Huskies are ranked 551st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Harlan got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alexa Romero out in front who scored 14 points along with two steals. Romero hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Kaitlin Mendoza was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, Holmes still got an impressive performance from Crystal Aragon, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Harlan has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-11 record this season. As for Holmes, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-21.
Harlan will head out on the road to challenge the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Jay will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. Holmes will take on the Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Taft has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 29.
